Dog-Friendly Walks & Things to Do Around Dalavich & Loch Awe

Muddy paws, ancient woodlands and the wild side of Loch Awe

There is a specific kind of magic that happens in Dalavich Forest throughout the year. The air is crisp, the moss is vibrant green, and the local waterfalls are particularly spectacular after periods of rain.

At Bracken & Co, we believe a true "wilderness reset" isn't complete without your four-legged best friend. Here's our insider guide to some of the best dog-friendly walks and adventures around Dalavich and Loch Awe.

1. The Local's Favourite: Dalavich Ancient Woodland Loop

If you only have time for one dog-friendly walk near Bracken Lodge, make it this one. Just a short stroll from the cabin, this loop takes you through the stunning Dalavich Ancient Oakwood.

  • The Route: A gentle 1.5 km loop that is perfect for a morning stretch or a pre-dinner wander.
  • The Vibe: This is a rare "Atlantic Rainforest." You’ll find yourself surrounded by ancient, gnarled oaks draped in rare lichens and vibrant ferns. It feels like stepping into a storybook.
  • For the Dogs: It’s a sensory paradise of forest scents and soft, mossy paths that are easy on the paws.

2. Avich Falls: A Dog-Friendly Walk Through Barnaline Woods

For a longer dog-friendly walk, Avich Falls is an absolute must, particularly after periods of heavy rain.

  • The Walk: Located in the Barnaline woods, follow the waymarked trails to the falls. It’s a manageable 2.5 km trip that rewards you with spectacular cascades.
  • Top Tip: There is a perfectly placed picnic bench right by the main falls. Pack a flask and simply listen to the water roar.

3. Dog-Friendly Dalavich: Food, Community & a Post-Walk Stop

After exploring the trails, head back into the village. We are incredibly proud of our community-owned hubs—they are the true soul of Dalavich.

  • The Loch Awe Wild Café: The perfect spot for a post-walk toastie or a slice of homemade cake. It is incredibly dog-friendly and a great place to chat with locals about the best hidden trails.
  • The Dalavich Social Club: Our community-run "pub" is the heart of the village. It’s cosy, welcoming, and the best place to enjoy a local malt or a cold beer by the fire.
